Having been a beauty blogger for the past 8 years I feel my staple beauty favourites are something I often neglect to talk about. While in reality I know they should the thing I talk about most - they are after all the products I've been repurchasing and loving for years!
So today I thought I would sit down, gather all my favourite beauty staples around me and finally talk about them and generally sing their praises, circa 2012 style.

When it comes to beauty dupes we now expect them to pop up from brands on the high street, but I can't say I have them in mind when I'm doing my weekly food shop. So Aldi having a plethora of beauty and skincare dupes has very much surprised me.
From designer candles dupes to some look-a-like (and feel alike!) cult skincare products, along with some budget beauty staples accessories that I've been beyond impressed with, Aldi is a budget beauty lovers dream right now! So I thought I'd share my top 5 Aldi Lacura beauty products today in hope to inspire a dedicated trip!

After packing for a little break away with my boyfriend is still fresh in my mind and it is summer, after all, I thought I share with you the beauty products seriously worth picking up to pack for your next vacation and enjoy using the rest of the time!
Below, you will find travel size products that not only save space in an overnight bag or suitcase but also work well as products in your makeup bag in their own right. From miniature versions of some cult classics to some seriously lust-worthy palettes for both home and away use.
Call it the UK heatwave or the fact I've been in a bit of a slump lately, but for the past two months I have probably worn the least amount of makeup since my teenage years.
Not only has this taught me to be more comfortable in my own skin, but my skin has felt better for it and on the days I do want to wear makeup I've found myself reaching for much fewer products with lighter textures and an overall fresher feel.
Below I think there are an interesting mix of beauty products that while having a juxtaposition about them actually work well together - think a low-maintenance high end look!
The thing about mascara is we don't often talk about the application technique behind it, we just kinda' brush it on.
Most of the time it looks good, but then there are the times even your favourite mascara can make your eyelashes look short and clumpy, or worst still you hurt your eye as you are wiggling the brush ever closer to the base of your lashes and your eye does that awful rolling to the back of your head in pain thing, please tell me that's not just me?
Is there such a thing as the perfect mascara application? Or is it just personal choice on how you best like to apply it? For me, I realised I was applying mascara in several different ways, dependant on... well nothing, really. It was more of a case of wiggling it at the base of my roots sometimes, then brushing it through on other occasions, because I never really took much thought to it or knew which way gave the best results. But then a few weeks ago after using the technique I want to share today (see below) and getting flawless clump-free eyelashes from with it, I thought why don't I do this every time? While it's nothing revolutionary or even something you won't have seen before it's pretty foolproof and for me gives the best results whatever type of mascara I go for.
While the interest is awash with beauty and skincare advise I often find entering a beauty related question/dilemma into Google more than likely throws up widely varying results and suggestions these days! Basically to the point of not knowing which source to trust or which advise to go with.
Which is how this post has come to be! Of course, this isn't much of a '101' type post as all, oops, but more of a look at a few common beauty problems that I feel I have knowledge in and can give my own advise on. From mastering winged liner to tacking oily but dry skin, I may just have the answers you have been looking for.
Which is why I can't get enough of my 5 minutes summer glow makeup routine right now. It's radiance-enhancing, subtle yet there, and oh so wearable for both day and night. It also only takes 6 products give or take!

So today I thought I would round up my favourite budget beauty gadgets from eBay, a lot of which I have tried and loved, to pass on some time saving and ingenious finds!
Just the other week I shared the content of my Lastest in Beauty Style Beauty Awards Box purchase and while I picked out some ultra amazing products for only £25, I couldn't resist building another box! I know... I'm now on a spending ban!
So while the limited edition beauty box is still around, but not for much longer, I thought I'd share with you the contents of my second box as everything is a bit more summer/holiday focused!
Beauty boxes have become a normal addition to the beauty industry and while I love some, the majority don't seem worth the money, generally including international brands you've never heard of or products that aren't that lust-worthy! So when a beauty box comes along, especially a no-subscription needed box, that contains some amazing premium products I'm there with my bank card!
And let me tell you the beauty box I've just picked up is the best one I've EVER come across (think Charlotte Tilbury & MAC?!) - you don't want to miss it!
Makeup pairing is something we all tend to do, whether it's lipstick combinations, pairing base products together for a dream combination or even double masking with formulas that complement each other.
We know they work and will go back to them time and time again, they may even be a part of our everyday routine, but the thing is we don't tend to share these perfect pairings with others... until now that is! While I have a few amazing beauty products pairings to share I'd love to know your own favourite combinations from makeup to skincare. If you have any be sure to let me know in the comments!

With a bunch of new Spring releases right now I thought it was the perfect time for a wish list post of things I have my eye on. From a candle that smells like my favourite face mask to a nail polish set to die for and the best beauty box I've ever seen!
When it comes to spending money on makeup & skincare I think we are all in the camp of wanting to save money. Whether that's saving by finding cheaper alternatives, hunting down the clearance shelf of your favourite beauty department store or even treating yourself to a gift set that instantly gives you a saving.
While I love hunting down a bargain my favourite way to save is by seeking out exclusive gift sets. Not only do feel like a total treat but they almost always give some kind of saving while allowing you to try more from your favourite brands. Below are four gift sets that I absolutely adore and are definitely worth the spend!
While the move to British Summer Time (BST) at the weekend may have left us all a little sleepy I think we're all glad of that extra hour of daylight making evening brighter for the foreseeable! With the change in daylight hours, I personally like to make the mental shift to Spring with DIY projects on the horizon, day trips planned, a Spring clean in full process and of course a change to my makeup routine.
For me, this means ditching full coverage foundations in place of lighter bases, fresher textures and finishes and of course a few new items to put a spring in my step. Below find out how I'm adding a touch of Spring into my makeup bag and how you can too.
For the most part here on Makeup Savvy I focus on skincare to improve and correct a complexion but makeup is pretty wonderful at camouflaging. Especially when you opt for the right products!
So today I thought I would share with you my simple glowing complexion routine that works really well for oily/combination skin but also for anyone suffering from lack luster skin. You may have noticed from the above image that my base routine consists of mainly Charlotte Tilbury products because I adore them, but I do often use one or two products here with much lower priced items. Although, when I do want my skin to look its best I go for this pretty premium line-up.

It's not often that I find I'm lusting over more new drugstore releases than high-end ones. But right now that seems to be the case with a list as long as my arm on the notes of my phone mostly of beauty launches you can pick up in either Boots or Superdrug. So today I thought I'd share the best of these new beauty launches while hopefully not enabling too much spending!
For the past two years, I've scoured the Internet to bring a series of bizarre beauty facts to Makeup Savvy. These have been some of my most favourite posts to put together as not only do you all seem to find them interesting but I love research part of these posts!
Below, I have one last bizarre beauty facts post for you before I wrap up this series. If you want to go back and discover even more beauty facts that may surprise you, you can find them all here.
1. While the appeal of baby soft skin may be strong using an electronic exfoliating brush can actually cause micro tears to the skin due to the pressure and harshness of the bristles. Chemical exfoliation all the way then!
2. Fans of Egyptian Magic cream will be interested to know that the all-purpose cream comes with quite a magic history. In 1986 the to-be founder was sitting in a New York diner when a mysterious man who went by the name of Dr. Imas approached him saying "Brother, the Spirit has moved me to reveal something to you.” Over the next two years, Dr. Imas visited the creams founder, Mr. Howard, and showed him how to make a skin cream from olive oil, beeswax, bee pollen, royal jelly and bee propolis. Dr. Imas claimed it was the exact formula for a cream found in ancient Egyptian tombs.
3. The founder of Maybelline, Tom Lyle Williams, named the brand after his sister Mabel, who used to make her lashes look thicker and darker by using a mixture of Vaseline and coal dust.
Sally Ride: "The engineers at NASA, in their infinite wisdom, decided that women astronauts would want makeup - so they designed a makeup kit... You can just imagine the discussions amongst the predominantly male engineers about what should go in a makeup kit." #RideOn #Classof78 pic.twitter.com/dNZ51cWELH— NASA History Office (@NASAhistory) 16 January 2018
4. In 1978 NASA Engineers wrongly assumed women astronauts would want to bring makeup into space so they went ahead and designed a makeup kit specifically for space missions. The prototype makeup kit included room for mascara, eyeliner, blush, eye shadow, eye makeup remover, and lip gloss but was never actually sent into space.
5. While Kate Middleton's outfits cause clothing items to sell out there isn't much chance of that happening in the nail polish department. As part of her royal duties, Katie must only sport natural looking nails at all public appearances. So we won't be seeing any manicures matching her outfits anytime soon.
7. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest skin on your body. It's as thin as a few sheets of paper and is in fact two thirds finer than the rest of the face. Which is why it makes sense to use different targeted skincare products to the rest of your face!
8. In 1953 Estee Lauder's first fragrance, Youth Dew, was an instant hit due to Lauder "accidentally" dropping a bottle at Galeries Lafayette in Paris so customers could smell it (and want to buy it).

9. Remember my previous fact about Coty's Sally Hanson seeming like a made-up person? Well, it seems that the brand has finally found Sally and her history! According to Coty "Who is Sally Hansen?" was among the most searched inquiries on the internet in 2016. So apparently the current vice president of Sally Hansen and his team set to work, discovering that Sally Hansen, nee Finney, started off her career working at La Finne Cosmetics, her family's store. Which in 1935 she converted the business into House of Hollywood which she eventually took national. From there, Sally Hansen trademarked "Hard As Nails" nail treatment which is still one of the brand's best-selling products to date!
10. The famous Chanel No.5 perfume got its name because Coco Chanel approved and preferred the fifth sample that perfumer Ernest Beaux developed for her.
11. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is censored in Saudi Arabian Sephora stores to Better Than Love Mascara. Nars Orgasm can also sometimes be seen going by simply 'O'.
However, I've always been determined to not let the weather or how I feel about it show, especially when it comes to my skin and the makeup I wear. When rainy bleak days are upon us in the depth of Winter I like to seek out light yet effective makeup and maintain my glow focused skincare routine. In the first part of this post discover the main players in my winter makeup bag.
Nope... we clearly don't! We wear red lipstick whenever we so please and we wear it for ourselves to feel sassy AF. So while we are nearing Valentine's Day please treat this as any other post and not one falling into the commercial nonsense that is Valentine's Day.
Below you will find five favourite reds of mine, which is coming from someone that has to feel totally comfortable with the tone and formula of such a bold colour before pulling off a red lip!
In all eight years of writing Makeup Savvy I don't think I've ever sat down to write a mascara review. I've put together mascara round-up posts sharing my favourites before, but never a single review. My reason? I believe mascara is one of those things that can look different on everyone as we all have different lash types - from poker straight, to long and luscious and even ones that naturally hold a curl (i.e the lashes I'm most jealous of).
However, Benefit has just dropped their latest mascaras in the form of BADgal BANG! and the hype has been huge, mainly due to it being their biggest individual product launch, ever! Which I guess I was a part of in some small way as I was sent the new mascara the day it launched.
Since then I've been using it as my main mascara and as I felt it may be a product a lot of people are lushing after right now so I thought I'd do a very honest and unbiased review. From sharing my likes and dislikes of every aspect of this mascara to is it worth purchasing!
